Sage ACT Premium 2011: Mail Merge Error "Could not open Item. Try again."

When doing a mail merge, i can complete the wizard and when it sends i get the following errors:

"Object not set to an instance of an object."

"Could not open the item. Try again."

I cant seem to find anything related on the knowlegdebase.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Zoi

Is that happening with every template you're using for the merge?  Try using a few different templates to see if you get the same error.  Also, try creating a new template just for testing.  It possible the template you are trying to do the merge with has somehow been corrupted.  If the issue is only happening on a few specific templates you will probably need to recreate them.

Re: Sage ACT Premium 2011: Mail Merge Error "Could not open Item. Try again."

Hi Cherie,

I did attempt to create a new template as well as using different existing templates, but the error occurs with all templates.

I have also received the folowing error: "Retrieving COM class factory for component with CLSID {741BEEFD-AEC0-4AFF-84AF-4F61D15-F5526} failed due to the following error: 80040154}" - i was able to resolve this issue with KB articel 23311.

Please see specs for additional info:

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

64 bit OS

Office 2010 (32 bit)

Thanks for the help

If you have access to the Demo database, can you try a mail merge and see if you get the same error?

Hi Naderkazerouni,

The following Knowledgebase article has more info regarding the Object Reference error during mail merges: http://kb.act.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38198

I had this error from memory, when you installed Act did you make sure that Office was installed first?
When you run Outlook and Act make sure that they are both run as Administrators (right click on the app then :run as administrator")

Re: Sage ACT Premium 2011: Mail Merge Error "Could not open Item. Try again."

Office was installed before I purchased and installed ACT.

I just ran both as an administrator and got the same result.  In fact, now it's worse: before, I was having the issue with just one template.  Now I'm having it with all of them.

I also have an unresolvable issue with e-mails no longer attaching to contacts. I thought upgrading ACT (which I just did) would help with both these issues. It helped with neither.  So I think I'm just going to uninstall he program and reinstall it (after a backup, of course).

Hi Craig,

What version of Act! are you using?
What Email editor is selected on step 4 of the Email Setup Wizard (Tools > Preferences > E-mail & Outlook Sync)?
