SQL Server 2005 set up issue with ACT 2009 on Windows XP

ACT Forum,

Please help!  After receiving the error, "Database could not be accessed...", I could not resolve the issue so I uninstalled ACT 2009 and reinstalled.  I thought I followed all the instructions but when reinstalling either ACT by itself or trying to reinstall SQL Server after ACT is installed (tried both), I receive the error, "Instance with same name is already installed on computer. To proceed with SQL Server setup, provide a unique instance name".

Can anyone help me resolve this set up issue with SQL Server 2005??

Thanks!

Re: SQL Server 2005 set up issue with ACT 2009 on Windows XP

This is a procedure I wrote to get the most clean install possible:
Uninstall any version of ACT! from Windows Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Use the Uninstaller.exe from the ACT! KB 19338 (the exe, not the manual uninstall) - select to remove the ACT7 instance
Perform a Selective restart with MSCONFIG as per ACT! KB 14499
Install ACT! 11.0 full install
Install ACT! 11.1 patch if the previous install was a previous build
Restore from Selective Startup Mode with MSCONFIG
Reboot

Takes time, but will give the cleanest and most stable install.

For the KB numbers, go here http://tinyurl.com/34xq94 - put the number in "Search Text" and change "Search By" to Answer ID

If you then get an error with the database, we'll deal with that after
