SQL 2005 error during install

Installing Act! 2008 Standard on a XP Pro SP3 workstation.

During the install I get the error message: "There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard.  You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information"

When I click on more information it says:

Error signature

Event type : sql90setup     P1 : invokesqlsetupdllaction     P2 : 0x2
P3 : sqls__invokesqlsetupdllaction__perform     P4 : 0x2
P5 : setup_ sqlsetupactions.cpp@1692     P : 6 setup.exe@2005.90.2042.0
P7 : none

The install continues but SQL 2005 does not properly install.  I can go into Act! but it won't let me log into any database.

Any ideas? Thanks

Tony

Re: SQL 2005 error during install

These instructions assume there are no other programs using MS SQL on this computer and there was a conflicting program (firewall or Anti-virus) running when the original installation was attempted.

Before attempting a reinstall, you will need to remove all of the pieces of Act! and SQL.  You will need to uninstall Act! through the Add/Remove Programs screen as well as any 'Microsoft SQL Server' entries (possible entries: 2005, Native Client, VSS Writer, and Setup Support Files) and MSXML 6.0 Parser.  Once those have been removed from Add/Remove - you will need to run the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility and remove any of the aforementioned items (if they are listed).  You can download the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility with this link: Download MS Windows Installer Clean Up Utility.  You can review this document (at end of document) to see what the Installer Clean Up Utility looks like: Manually remove Act! 2008

Once this clean up has been done:

- reboot the computer into Selective Startup (Reboot XP in Selective Startup)

- install Act!
