Restoring backed up layouts

No doubt this has been asked ad nauseum, but I cant find anything when I search - because I'm an idiot.

I backed up my layout and contacts.  I reformatted my computer.  I successfully restored my contacts. But my contact page layout won't change the "basic" layout.

Here's what happens:

I go to TOOLS, I click DESIGN LAYOUTS, the layouts EDITOR opens up, I go to FILE, I click OPEN, I choose CONTACT LAYOUT in the drop-down, I choose the LAYOUT file I want to restore, it successfully opens in the editor - so I see my backed up layout in the editor (that works!), then no matter what i do I can't get it to change the default BASIC layout that is already there, and that I want to change to the backed up custom layout I designed.  I try to save it in the correct folder.  I try to exit. I try to X out.  Nothing I do effects the BASIC layout that is behind the editor, currently visible in ACT!

Please help me!

Re: Restoring backed up layouts

Okay I got it.

It has to be saved in the correct folder as BASIC LAYOUT.  Apparently ACT! doesn't care if you want to keep the basic layout and add another layout.  It REALLY WANTS any backed up to be called BASIC LAYOUT.  Ridiculous. But whatev.

Thanks for anyone who was going to help.  Live long and prosper.
