Remove capitalization of every letter in a field

[ Edited ]

I have imported data from different soures into my ACT database. The formatting of text fields is not consistant, I would like to know if an add-on to Sage ACT! Pro 2011 Version 13.0.401.0 is available, which will take a field with all capitals, and change it, so only the first letter, of each word is capitalized. Example; THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO, become The University Of Colorado.

Is it possible for ACT to do this type of field formatting as I manually enter information into a record? I have worked with both Corel's Paradox, and Microsoft's ACCESS. Both of these appliactions have 'field rules' capabilities. ACT has this ability for numerical fields like; Zip, and Phone/FAX Number fields.

Hello HarolSJS,
You should be able to do this by changing the data type for that field:
- Make a backup of your ACT! database
- Go to Tools > Define Fields
- Locate the field with the all caps data in it and double-click to edit
- For the "Select a field data type..." box, change it to Initial-Caps
- Click Yes when prompted
- Click Next, Finish, then Close to save
- This should change the value in that field for all contacts to title case
- You can then go back and change the data type to Character and the title case should remain (optional - this is if you don't want the format of the field to force title case).

Re: Remove capitalization of every letter in a field

Your procedure seems to make sense. However, (there is always a 'however'), it does not work! I am still left with records which have fields that are all capitalized. I attempted to change this per your step-by-step procedure, with out it making any difference.
