Reference Not Set to the Instance of an Object

I use ACT Pro 2013,  Version 15.1.108.0, I use a local database on my Windows 7 Professional computer.

I have two notes in two files that when I click on the notes, I get this error. I am wondering if this is the start of some sort of issue?  I read about fixing it by deleting the preference file, but it says I will loose my menu.  There is also an article on how to preserve the menu, but it only gives assistance on versions prior to 2013.  What is the procedure for dealing with this error in 2013?

Re: Reference Not Set to the Instance of an Object

Can you confirm that you have ACT!2013 Pro with Service Pack1 ? I think you do not sure?

If not, here is the link to download center http://download.act.com/support/downloads/Sage-ACT-Pro-2013-Product-Downloads.html

If yes, then I would run ACTDIAG

Close ACT!, outlook, browsers, etc..

Start

Run

ACTDIAG

Database / Database List

On the left side of db name, rite click on desired database button and select database rebuild, run the 4 rebuild options from there.

Close ACTDIAG and restart ACT!2013 spk1

Let me know if all that does not worky. - cheers - FSB

Re: Reference Not Set to the Instance of an Object

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your input.  I quickly realized that I was getting this message only on notes where a graphic image was included in the note?  My short term solution was to delete the graphic image since it was not needed in the particular note any longer. Since then I have added additional graphic images with no problems. So, I will keep your solution on hand to use if the problem occurs again.

Question:  When you say to use the options on the database rebuild, I assume you mean to run them all, also, by doing this will my menu changes that were made in the design layout be saved/restored?

Thanks!

Re: Reference Not Set to the Instance of an Object

Just the 4 rebuild options(not all options-not the sync - anyway - read more before using the sync option).

Those 4 rebuild options should have no effect on your layouts or custom command settings.

I run those 4 rebuild options on all my databases appprox once per month.

Also to keep from losing your Custom Commands Toolbar settings, always backup your ACT! db and "Personal Files" using ACT! / File / Backup options  -"RUN DAILY".

ACTDIAG also will allow you to delete/rebuild preferences and there are options, but not sure if you will lose your current custom commmand  settings. That's why you need to backup personal files as well as db.

Are you using  act2013  "SERVICE PACK1  HF1" ?

IF YOU ARE NOT, THAY MAY EXPLAIN YOUR ERROR?

I use this Backup Folders Pro to keep my ACT! Backups orginized. http://fillstaff.com/backupfolderspro.html FREE.

Unzip the file(extract all), then copy paste the unzipped folder into your ACT! Backup folder.

I dont recall that I have tried to paste a image into the ACT! notes and not sure it is supported, to work?

You can also create a photo field and add that to your layout, then have photo of your contacts in your layout.
