Re-install of ACT! 2006 will not allow me to complete update wizard

I am at version 8.0.1.125, (upgrade of ACT is not an option for us, here at work), for the next 3 months we need access to our existing data from 5 years.

 

ACT 2006 was recently re-installed on a newer machine due to hardware issues. Steps taken were:

 

  • install ACT 2006
  • Attempt to open .ADF file.
  • "Act will attempt to now verify the database. This process may take several minutes."
  • Error received : "The LSN (3294:472:1) passed to log scan in database 'sos' is invalid. Could not open new database 'sos'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted."

    (database is 485MB and is not a NEW database)
  • updating the ACT software, is providing a file download, with unpacking when the file is completely downloaded (ACT802StandCAUpdate).
  • The wizard then stops with this error: "The wizard was interrupted before ACT 2006 could be completely installed.  The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again."

The cycle continues over and over, asking to UPDATE, then failing to install with an interruption.

So, you have

  • sos.adf
  • sos.alf
  • sos-database files folder...

 

I could be wrong, but based upon your posted error, it sounds like you have a corrupt database.

 

You sure you don't have a backup around?

 

If not, you will want to reach out to either Sage or some of the other folks who do database repair/salvage...

What was the process used to get the database onto the new machine?

 

Can you do a restore of a backup instead of using this copy of the database?

 

Sounds like you might have log file problems...

The drive we pulled SOS.ADF and SOS.ADL off of, is not bootable. We do not have a .ZIP file (backup) of the database. And we are loading it, along with the database directory, from a thumb drive. (Copied over from the old non-bootable hard drive).

Yes, those are the files. No back-up.

 

ACTDIAG was used on the SOS file, when it was on the older computer and no issues were found to exist.

 

Can you point me in the direction of a file corruption specialist?

In lieu of this, would there be a third party tool that allows access to the ACT database for information and calendar purposes (to read/view).
