Questions about copying ACT databases (ACT 2010)

I have a feeling this question will have a simple solution, but I'm at a loss at the moment.

I have a client who uses ACT 2010.  They currently have a database which they wish to copy all of the data into a new database which will become their 2016 database.  They wish to start using the 2016 database on January 1st and they will leave the previous database as an archive of sorts.  I have copied the existing database and renamed it to be the 2016 database and have put it into it's own folder on the server.  It appears that any information entered into the current database is being added to the 2016 as well, so replication is happening.  How do I go about separating this new 2016 database from the existing?  Obviously copying it wasn't the route to go, so what would be the proper procedure here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The option you want is in File > Save Copy As
This will create a complete separate copy.
