Question: ex: ACT!2013 Pro - Why are we not using service pak2 for  MS SQL SERVER 2008 R2 (Express) (instead of Svc Pak1)? Thanks.

I was working on a prob (Win8 - 64bit) where ACT!2013 pro 15.1.....

Backup Process aborted. Reference KB Article re error msg link

http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/28141/~/error%3A-%22cannot-insert-duplicate...

I  intended to reinstall service pak 1 and some how when I clicked on the link I ended up on a page to download service pak2.

and then I could not find service pak1 download link. .  I also ran the .bat file to fix the sql server probs. That did fix the backup problem. So will service pak2 work? Hope so.  The customer also has a remote db on his win 7 (64bit)? laptop.

He has to free up some space on his c drive before we can attempt to backup his remote db. Then we hope the sync will work and all should be ok?.

Cheers - FSBill

Link so SP1: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26727

Seems strange how you couldn't get to SP1 as the link points to SP1 on the Kb article...

Skeith,

Thanks for the link. It is good link . May be a bug on customers pc?

The link works on my pc's.

but my main question still remains; .

Since I already applied service pak2 on his desktop server pc, will it work ok ?

If Not, what exact procedure is required to revert back to service pak1? Thanks again - I still need help - Cheers - FSBill

Regards to the Service pack, i'm guessing you are talking about Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2 Service Pack 2?

Do you want to know whether it will work with ACT! 2013 or Win 8 64-bit?

Hi Sam,

Thank you again for the reply, yes. as I mentioned in my initial post above.

My question was specific but let me try again here.

In post above I resolved his sql error/db backup prob

and customer is also able to sync to his win7pro-64bit laptop.

And even though all seems to be well for now, should I leave things as they are ,

or should I go back to ms sql server 2008 r2 express services pak1? and if yes, How exactly do I do this?

reference:

"but my main question still remains; .

Since I already applied service pak2 on his desktop server pc, will it work ok ?

If Not, what exact procedure is required to revert back to service pak1?

I see where you are making more reply/post to this thread as I am replyiing..

Note: in the upper rite corner of your post, see Options? You can edit/add to your existing post.

Thanks again - I still need help"

Yes you must understand i just wanted to clarify i had understood.

You don't need to do anything, SP2 will work fine with  ACT! 2013 and Win7/8 32/64-bit

However you must remember to apply the bat file to both the server as well as EVERY remote that synchs with the master dB. You may need to run the bat file several times on each machine as well.

Hello Sam,

http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/31096/kw/windows%208

This KB article states that Windows 8 works with ACT 2013 and Server 2008 when SP1 is installed.

Even though you have SP2 installed it applies SP1 anyway with it.

I have seen guinea pig servers run just fine with Win 8 and Server 2008 R2 SP2 with ACT 2013, so you have nothing to worry about.
