I have a friend that wants to do some business development by sending out group emails, and I've suggested Act! to him. He says that someone told him that spam filters that monitor outgoing emails can often create problems because they flag the Act! group emails as spam and prevent them from going out.
Has anyone here encountered that issue, and if so is there a work around?

If you CC a lot of names, many ISPs will block this. Some will even block mass emails.

Not only do they get past the issue that most ISPs will block sent or received emails with a lot of names as spam, they also get past the issue that most mail clients will choke at around 100-150 emails in a batch.
They also provide useful extras like OptOut functions required by law in many countries and can even let you know who opened emails and who clicked on links.

My friend says someone had recommended that he try a mailing program called Constant Contact for use with Act! Any ideas how that compares with the two programs already mentioned here?

I haven't tried it... they have a new link for ACT!, not sure how it compares.
Trial them and see which suits you
