Problem - The application has encountered an error and been shut down

[ Edited ]

I’m running Act 2007 and have developed a new database with many new custom fields and for reasons unknown it keeps crashing with the message. ‘The application has encountered an error and been shut down.’ It is worth noting that this happens most often when changing records or using the save option.  Does anyone have any tips on things to try to prevent this or where the bugs are to solve the problem. Thanks

Re: Problem - The application has encountered an error and been shut down

There could be more than one possible reason for this error.

- If during your customization of the layout, you may have removed a default tab. It is not recommended to remove the Notes, History, Activities, Opportunities, Groups/Companies, Secondary Contacts, Documents, or Contact Info tabs from the layout. If you have removed any of these tabs, it is recommended you put them back.

- Microsoft .NET issues. Check your Windows Event Viewer (right-click My Computer, choose Manage, expand Event Viewer and click Application) for any .NET Runtime Errors that occurred at the time of any of the crashes.  If you have these types of errors, you will need to unintstall ACT! and .NET 2.0, then reinstall.

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.
