We are having problem at installation stage of ACT! by sage 2006
the error message comes when screen goes into setup stage saying: SETUP CPULD NOT FIND FILE ON THE SPECIFIED PATH OR DISK. PLEASE CHECK THE PROPER DISK IS INSERTED OR SPECIFIY A NEW PATH. UNABLE TO LOCATE A FILE C:\DOWNLOAD\ACT801\STANDARD\ACTSTD\ACT!.MSI
we are installing through network path and also i have check manually that the specified path file is available in that folder.
and once we click Retry on this error message, another error message coming which says ERROR 1706: NO VALID SOURCE COULD BE FOUND FOR PROUDCT ACT! THE WINDOW INSTALLER CANNOT CONTINUE.
and after that installation roll back.
Please advice with best solution. thank you!

Somewhere on you machine there is now a reference to ACT7. You need to search the registry and the hard drive for this value an delete it.

It looks like it was a bug in an old version of InstallShield - http://www.installsite.org/pages/en/bugs_isd800.htm
According to that site, it can heppen if installing from a network. Maybe copy the install files locally and try it

We dont have the CD available.
when we open CCleaner, in tools it shows all the programs installed on computer. there is one program named ACT! is still there. is it the cause of this error. please suggest how to uninstall this program and then we can again try to install it.

dwe have tried todo step by step procedure as you said.
ACT! has been removed from COntrol panel through uninstaller.exe but now when we try to install ACT it is not entering into setup wizard.
stops at entering into install shield step.
please suggest why is this happening. we have stopped all firewall and anti-virus.

Did you also remove all .Net versions?
Was there any error? If so, what?

yes i have removed all .Net versions from control panel.
then i rebooted pc.
after that i have tried to install ACT! it starts the process and also install .Net framework after that when it reached to the status called preparing to enter in installshield it stops installing and NO error message is coming!

Unfortunately, Mike's procedure will have no effect on the error that you are receiving. What is happening here is that the Windows Installer database has a reference in it that is orphaned on the machine. What this means is that there is a reference in the registry relating to the ACT MSI file that doesn't exist on the hard drive any longer. Couple of things to try here:
1) Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Launch the application and look for the ACT! product listed in the file list. If detected, allow it to remove the listing. Then try your install again.
If the issue continues:
2) Open the registry and search for "ACTSTD\ACT!.MSI". Delete refernces to the entries discovered and reinstall ACT!
Please post back your results.
