Possible Data Corruption?

We're running 11.1

We've created a couple of new users, and after a couple of Sync's their Contact Name has become a "."

Here's an image showing briefly whats occuring.

 Is this a simple case of Data Corruption (appears to be) and whats the best way to;

- Fix this

- Prevent this

Re: Possible Data Corruption?

When I have seen this, it usually means that someone overtyped the contact record for the user with a new contact record. You will need to duplicate the record to preserve the new contact's information. Then go back to the orginal and change the information back to that of the associated user. Duplicating the contact will not duplicate notes, histories, activities, and opportunities. To bring these over to the duplicate, you need to highlight the original and the duplicate in the Contact List view, then go to Tools/Copy Move Contact Data and follow the steps in the wizard.
