Outlook not properly configured

A power outage in my complex caused this to happen:

---------------------------
ACT! Address Book
---------------------------
The ACT! Address Book service is not properly configured, or the configured database Personal.pad is locked.  Do you want to configure it now?
---------------------------
Yes   No
---------------------------

It is properly configured in ACT! but it's telling me:

---------------------------
ACT!
---------------------------
The ACT! database cannot be found.  Please contact your administrator for assistance.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I guess that means that whenever any company experiences a power outage, if there are many computers, all of them will have to go through this?  It was tested in ACT! and it verifies the database exists, but Outlook immediately opens up to the message(s) above.

Just great.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

Try running detect and repair in Outlook. Can you open the database in the ACT! program? If not , is the SQL server running?

Re: Outlook not properly configured

Roy,

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, I can run the database in ACT! and I do believe that the SQL server is running.  How can you tell?  CTRL+ALT+DEL?  How can one tell it's active?

Re: Outlook not properly configured

If the database opens in ACT! the SQL server is running. I suspect that your problems are in Outlook, try the detect and repair there.

No luck.  Still has the same message:

---------------------------
ACT!

The ACT! database cannot be found.  Please contact your administrator for assistance.
---------------------------
OK

Does anyone have another idea to clear this problem up?

 Thanks!

Re: Outlook not properly configured

I've seen this before and fixed the problem by creating a new Outlook profile for the user and reconnecting the address book. Problem was a corrupted Outlook profile.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

I am really getting tired of this.

I created a new Outlook profile and went through that ridiculous time waste getting all my emails to come back from my .pst files and then tried to get it to work, but lo and behold, it doesn't. Sage, what is wrong with you?

It says it's OK when you try to set it up through ACT! and the addressbook attaches itself, but Outlook won't recognize it and the ANNOYING message(The ACT! Address Book service is not properly configured, or the configured database Personal.pad is locked.  Do you want to configure it now?) pops up when Outlook opens.

For some reason when you try to configure it through ACT!, it accepts it, but Outlook itself does not.  When you try to reconfigure it through Outlook, it does not recognize the database and it cannot be found.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

Gosh I really need an answer on this. What is going on with this problem?  When I try to set up the addressbook through ACT! it says this:

---------------------------
ACT!
---------------------------
Changes made to the ACT! address books will not take effect until you restart Outlook.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

OK. So that is fine.  After that, when I open Outlook, it says this:

---------------------------
ACT! Address Book
---------------------------
The ACT! Address Book service is not properly configured, or the configured database Personal1.pad is locked.  Do you want to configure it now?
---------------------------
Yes   No
---------------------------

I tried to delete the addressbook, no luck.  I looked in ACTDIAG to see if it was locked, no luck.  I even created a new database with a different name, no luck. Admin rights are fine from what I can tell.

Here's the message:

---------------------------
ACT!
---------------------------
The ACT! database cannot be found.  Please contact your administrator for assistance.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

If the power ever went out in any company, no one ever got this error before?  No one has experienced this before?

I am sorely depressed and disappointed.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

Try following the steps below:

1.  Remove the ACT! address book from Outlook

2.  Close Outlook.

3.  Go to Start and select Run.

4.  Type regedit and click Ok.

5.  Backup your registry following the KB article below.

      - How to Back Up the Registry on a Windows Operating System

6.  Delete the following key:

      - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ACT\OutlookAddressBooks

7.  Close the registry editor and open Outlook

8.  You will probably get the same error, reconfigure the ACT! address book.
