Outlook contact integration

[ Edited ]

I have a problem that I can't find addressed anywhere.

I have ACT Pro v19.1 with update 3 and am running Outlook 2016, reverted back a version to enable sync.

I can sync my calendar with a problem, but contacts will not sync.

Continually getting an error that references AddressEntry or MAPI_E_Call_Failed.

Any suggestions?

Re: Outlook contact integration

Hi radoutdoor,

A couple of things to try first of all:

  1. Does the issue also occur when you're using a different database (i.e. a new one, or the Demo db)?
  2. Does the issue also occur when integrating with any other Outlook profiles (try creating a new local profile to test)?

You could try removing the address book from Outlook, and re-add it to see if this solves the issue:

  1. In Outlook, click File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Address Books, select the Act! Address Book and remove it
  2. Follow the steps in this Knowledgebase article under the heading: Remove your ACT! Address Books from Outlook
  3. Follow the steps in this article to re-add the address book
  4. Test the contact sync again

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Outlook contact integration

Hi

Considering your current issue, the following KB article might be helpful.

http://kb.act.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38580/kw/MAPI_E_Call_Failed

Have a look at it and make sure that your outlook is downgraded to the correct build, mentioned as exactly in the article.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am using a version of Outlook that is supposed to work.

In an effort to solve this issue, I did a reinstall of both Outlook and ACT.

I am now running ACT V19.0 with update 5.

The error that I get after nearly every attempt is:

Error in IAddrBook.OpenEntry: MAPI_E_UNKNOWN_ENTRYID

Re: Outlook contact integration

Hey Gary W,

Thanks for your help.

I tried all of the steps you mentioned and it seems that creating a new Outlook profile did the trick.

Now without sounding too ignorant, should I delete the old profile to eliminate any potential problems with other programs?

Hi radoutdoor,

Glad to hear that you solved the issue.
I'm not aware of any inherent risk with keeping the old profile it around, although unless you require any of its data, there isn't much point in keeping it.

Re: Outlook contact integration- ACT Pro v19.1 update 3 will not sync

Ok, so the "fix" worked very temporarily, oddly enough with the computer was shut off for the night the same problem occurred the next day.  i  have repeated set up and deleted different profiles, reinstalled both ACT and Outlook but nothing seems to work.

I can sync my activity just not my contacts the error message is:

Error In IAddrBook.openEntry: MAPI_E_UNKNOWN_ ENTRYID

I am at a loss here and am pulling my hair out to fix this - HELP!

I am running:
ACT Pro v 19.1 update 3

Office 2016 v: 16.0.6868.2067 (This is a version that works with ACT / or did)

Re: Outlook contact integration- ACT Pro v19.1 update 3 will not sync

Hi radoutdoor,

Could you try going to Office version 16.0.4229 and see if the problem persists? Following the steps in this Knowledgebase article under the heading Resolving the issue in retail versions of Outlook 2016 should allow you to do this.
