Outlook Sychronisation

[ Edited ]

Hello,

Sorry to bring this old chestnut up but I have not been able to solve the problem I have.

The synchronisation was working perfectly. So far as I know I have not changed anything in ACT and it has mysteriously stopped working. The only change made is the addition of Adobe Acrobat, which adds itself to Outlook and other MS programmes.

I am running Office 2007

I am using Sage ACT! Pro 2012 Version 14.1.108.0, Hot Fix 3

OS in Windows 7 64bit

Actions taken so far

Ran scanpst, no issues found.

Tested a new Outlook profile - same problem

Ran database reapir in ACT

Ran MS Office Diagnostics  - No issues.

Have reduced calendar forward and backward periodsto synchronise (although it worked with the old settings).

Any and all help gratefully recieved. (BTW have searched the forums for a solution without success).

Thanks

Dave

Re: Outlook Sychronisation

What actually happens (or doesn't happen)?
Both calendar and contacts?
Do emails sent from outlook still attach to ACT! history?

Re: Outlook Sychronisation

Hi Mike,

Thanks for replying.

Neither Contacts or Calendar will synchronise. When I try from Outlook I get activity in the bottom left of the screen as if it is going to work but I get an error message saying synchronisation failed. It is the same if I try to synchronise from ACT.

E-mails do attach to the contact when sent from Outlook.

It was all working perfectly and just seem to stop. I realise something has changed but nothing I have knowing done.

Thanks

Try this ACT! Knowledge Base article -

Personally, I find the sync unreliable ... especially for international users.

And definately don't use if Outlook syncs to a phone

Re: Outlook Sychronisation

Mike,

I'll take a look at the link, thanks.

What do you mena by - And definately don't use if Outlook syncs to a phone.

This is the maoin reason I need to sync with Outlook so it can sync with my Android phone.

Re: Outlook Sychronisation

I find the Outlook sync only worth going one-way - from ACT! to Outlook. It does some silly things with international country codes in phone numbers and mishandles time zones in activities.

These alone cause occasional data loss or duplication

Syncing to a phone makes these much worse and there is a warning (most don't read) that it's not advised. Because of the way Outlook can change the item ID, ACT! sometimes doesn't see them as the same records and either deletes or duplicates them

I recommend the add-on Handheld Contact as the only reliable way to sync... I use it for my Android.

Re: Outlook Sychronisation

Mike,

I'll check it out.

My contacts are all  UK based and so have the same phone number format.

Once again thanks

Re: Outlook Sychronisation

Also, the Android has a "feature" where it can merge records (sometimes completely unrelated) ... outlook (and then ACT!) will see this as a record deleted.

HHC gets by that because it uses it's own database ... Plus activities are correctly linked to contacts and it also can record calls, sms and emails from the phone to ACT!'s history
