1) did you actualy install ACT! or are you running it from te CD. You mention you put in the disc and it is ok. You need to install it.
2) you installed another piece of software after the ACT! appliction, then you had issues. Did you report that the the vendor you installed? Why do you think ACT is the issue after installing another application?

Please supply the entire error message displayed including the technical information (stack trace).
So far analysis on points that the Local User group on the Windows machine needs to be added with Read/Write access.
