There are a few of ways you can do this:
- Make a backup of your database and delete the old contacts. When you want to access them again, restore the backup under a different name using the "Restore As" option
- If you have an extra user license, create a new user, assign this user as the Record Manager of the old contacts, then make the contacts Private under the Contact Access tab. That way, those contacts would only be visible by logging in as that other user
- Create an empty copy of your database (File/Save Copy As), create a lookup of the old contacts, then export that lookup from your current database to the copy.
