I've attempted to import company level records from a CSV file, but the import does not allow me to map the COMPANY field...what is up with that?
Also, since I now have a database with over 100 records with company names like
"Imported Company - woja;ls;lfajsoa202850298qowje0a93w"; (the balance of the data fields map great....unfortunately, they don't do me a whole lot of good without the company name!!!) how do you delete the whole mess?
It appears that one is only able to delete one record at a time.....which would totally suck!
If any of you are willing to walk a neophyte through the learning curve, I would greatly appreciate it.
If it makes the request any more palatable, I am very computer literate, with several years of IT background and am a bit of an applications specialist. All the more frustrating!!!!!
Thanks in advance for the assistance!

In rsponse to "I've attempted to import company level records from a CSV file, but the import does not allow me to map the COMPANY field...what is up with that?". This is a glitch in the program. Make sure that the column in your *.csv file is titled 'Company' exactly (Inital Caps). I understand that if it is spelled will a lowercase 'c' the program will not see it.
As for deleting companies in batch, your right -> you can't. Unless there is a third party program to let you do this.
For future reference it is advised you backup your dataabse before doing any imports. That way you could just restore the backup instead of having to delete all those companies manually.

Thanks so much!
I had actually figured out that I could import at a "contact" level and then manually create companies from each contact. It was a long and arduous process, but it worked.
Now, when I try to overlay the "Phone" into the phone field, it doesn't see it at the company level, only at the contact level. This is a very "interesting" program....in the ancient Chinese proverbial sense of the word.
This is the initial build of the database, so unfortunately, the restore wasn't an option for me!!
Have a good one, and, again, thanks for the sage advice!!!

In ACT 2005 and higher, you can link Contact fields with Company fields allowing changes made on the Co record to push down to the Contacts associated with them. This only works from Company --> Contact; not vice versa.... except when creating companies from contacts. In that case, contact info is pushed up to the Company record, as long as Contact fields are linked.
By default, phone fields are not linked. If you link the phone field on the contact record with Phone on the Company record, the number will push up to the Company (Tools|Define Fields and edit the phone field)
