New PC I7 Processor, 256 gb ssd, 8GB ram, Win 7 Ultimate, Microsoft 2010, Act pro 2011
transferred files from older PC to new one using Carbonite. Everything else is fine. I did not install Act 2010, but did install Act 2011 Pro. the demo database opens fine. When I try to open to the file of my main database, I get a cannot connect to database server error or the import process stops because the LDF & MDF files do not match. I tried turning off the firewall but that didn't help. I run Actdiag and it only "sees" the Act demo database.
I have not tried changing the location of the main database but it is on the C drive.
By the way, I tried to type this info twice using the new IE9 beta but for some reason the above detail would not appear. Now I'm using Chrome for this attempt

on your old pc / old database, using ACT!, do a file, backup, database( backs up db to a zip file)
then on your new pc, using ACT!, = file, restore database, Restore As option..
Then 1st time you attempt to open your new db, you will get msg that db needs to be updated to act2011...

Thanks for the reminder. This is what I always done when doing the same process but your note reminded me that I renamed the zip file with a name to make sure I would never mistakenly delete....not necessarily quickly remember though!
By the way, for anyone looking for how to maximize Act Pro 2011...GET A FAST SSD DRIVE!!! This app functions faster than Act6 ever did.
