For the past two mornings, I have had to select which db to open and reset options such as using the dialer and setting up eMail.
The system was working fine at day's end. I leave it running, so the scheduled backup will run in the evening.
In the morning, ACT is still up, so I closed it and retarted to get the rollovers to update.
Where should I look to troubleshoot this?

ACT! Tools / Preferences / Startup Tab
You can also goto your desired ACT!2013 database .pad file extension and rite click it and select
Send to Desktop(create shortcut)
reference location C:\Users\Username\Documents\ACT\ACT Data\Databases

Thanks Bill, but that is the way I have ACT set up -- to open the last opened db. Actually, the ACT icon is on my task bar too.
Unfortunately, even using a shortcut will not address the issue that my phone and eMail preferences had to be reset.

I dont see where you mentioned the complete version of ACT!2013 we are talking about?
ex: Sage ACT! Pro 2011 Version 22.214.171.124, Hot Fix 6
Have all the ServicePak / Hotfixes been applied?

Have you tried running ACTDIAG (including the Rebuild options)?
After that, have you used ACTDIAG to repair/delete/rebuild your Preferences folder items?
