I am hoping for help. I am using ACT 2005. I bought a new computer. I made my backups and have the ZIP files that were created. I have loaded ACT 2005 on the new machine, using the original CD. I go the the restore function, and it says to paint it to the ZIP file. I do that, and then I am told that ZIP files are not the correct type. Why is this, and what can I do. So frustrating.

Can you open ACT on the old computer and go to Help About ACT
What is the version number ?
Now do it on the new machine, are they the same?
Can you let us know what they are as I am also confused with the version number you gave.
It would also help if we know what version of Windows you are now on as we can see if it is compatible.
Lastly can you let us have a copy of the error message as it may give a clue to the problem you are having.

I have seen this message before so offer this just in case.
When you back ACT up using the Backup facility in ACT it does not create a standard ZIP file but a specialised one that can only be read by ACT during a restore.
I have seen people using something like winzip to back ACT up and then trying to use ACT to restore. They then get your message.
Not saying you did this but offer it just in case. ACT will also give the message if the ACT Zip file is damaged.
Just to test ACT has installed correctly are you able to open the demo database or create a new one?

I used the backup within ACT to make the backup Zip. Yes, I can open the Demo in ACT. It is names ACT7Demo.PAD. I also saved that database under a different name, and that also opens.
