Last night we had a consulting company come in and attempt to migrate our db from the standard 32bit express version of 2005 sql to a 64bit 2005 standard install.
I watched him walk through the steps of creating the ACT7 instance, and configure the other settings as per the instructions, however when he went to reinstall ACT, after setting up the ACT7 instance on the full version of SQL, it didnt find it. It prompted him for the 2nd CD, or to continue with the express install etc.
Has anyone else had problems like this while attempting to do this migration?
The server is 64bit 2008 Standard, and SQL 2005 Standard 64bit, SP3 is installed.
We had to go back to using the express install of SQL, just to get it back up and running, but it needs to get moved from that express instance.

Which version of ACT!?
If ACT! 2010, you might have a look at this:

This thread should be under the ACT! Premium section and not ACT!.
If you are prompted for CD#2, this is Premium ST.
So we understand, you have purchased your own copy of SQL 2005 Standard 64bit ?
The easiest thing to do is to manually create your ACT7 instance with your SQL 2005 Standard 64bit media (you need to remove your Express 32bit ACT7 instance).
Next, copy the content of CD#1 of your ACT! 11.x media to the local machine.
In the media, find and delete the file called "premium.txt", this should be under the ACTWG folder.
Run the install again. It is likely that that the OS check for Server class machines is taking place prior to the insance detection, and that is why you are prompted for CD#2 before the instance is found. Removing the Premium.txt file will skip the check.

Yes, it is our copy of SQL Standard 64bit, and we purchased ACT EX. Our consultant followed all of the steps in your post, short of deleting the premium.txt file.
Thanks again for your help, and I'll post the results once we give it a try.
