Matching records when importing

Hello. We would like to extract all our records from our ACT database, do some work on them outside ACT, and then update a single field on all the ACT records again by importing data to that single field. Ideally, therefore, we would match all the records back in ACT using a URN of some sort. Can this be done?

Many thanks,

Ben_Lothair,

You may want to review this post:  Social Security Number Change.  They had a similar situation where they wanted to export the data, change one field, and re-import the data.  Hope this helps.

Re: Matching records when importing

You might find it more reliable to use itImport

It has a function to auto-number all the records, you then do the export (including the number field). Do the work outside or ACT! and then use itImport to merge and update the ACT! date using the number field as the match field.

If just doing Contact fields, you can use the Basic edition.
