Linking Groups & Subgroups

My employer wants to link Groups with Subgroups.  In other words let's say you make a Group titled "Employees" and within that Group you create Subgroups like "Accounting", "Customer Service" & "Production".  When you choose a Subgroup, that Subgroup's email addresses show up on the right, however if you choose the main Group no email addresses show up.  We would like to be able to select the Group "Employees" and have it display all the Subgroup's ("Accounting", "Customer Service" & "Production") collective email addresses on the right.

Is that possible?

Re: Linking Groups & Subgroups

Hello drrobin,
Welcome to the Sage ACT! User Community. Unfortunately, there is no real link between a group and its subgroups, other than cosmetic. You would have to also add the subgroup members to the group (statically or dynamically, using the same criteria as the subgroups) in order to see them under the main group.

Re: Linking Groups & Subgroups

So, if I have an employee in the Accounting department I would need to add them to the "Accounting" Subgroup and the "Employees" Group individually?

That is correct. If you are adding contacts to subgroups using dynamic criteria, you can just add the combined criteria of all the subgroups to main group, so they will be automatically added to the group at the same time they are added to the subgroup. If adding members to subgroups statically (manually), then you will also have to manually add them to the main group.

Re: Linking Groups & Subgroups

With ACT! 6.0, the parent group can see all records in the sub-group ... this is no-longer the case.

You might post a request for this feature to be considered for a future version here -

Input from this web page goes directly into a database that management has direct access to read, and which they also track and gather statistics on. It also allows other users to vote on these so Sage can get an idea of the demand

This article might help word the request to make it easier for management to look at it:
