Link to or Add to Company - what's the difference?

The subject says it all really. The help doesn't explain the difference between linking a contact to a company and adding a contact to a company.

'Linking' a contact to a company allows you to push data in linked fields from the Company to the Contact, this is to help reduce keystrokes due to dual entry.  For example: you have 50 people linked to a company and the company moves offices.  You can update the Address on the Company screen and then use the 'Update Linked Contacts' option to propagate the information out to the 50 contacts.

When a contact is 'added' to a Company, it will not have the Linked Fields capability.  It will still show the contacts' Notes and History items combined in the Company Notes and History tabs.  To link a contact requires that the 'company' field be populated with the name of the Company, if 'adding' a contact - the company field can be different.  You'll notice that Linked Contacts have the company field value underscored, this will also show on the Contact List view.
