Hi, I'm new to Act but I've found a really frustrating problem and I was wondering if someone could help me (or at least figure out another solution.)
I have a list of companies, some of which don't actually have contact names. Ie: I have company XYZ and I have a general e-mail address for this company, email@example.com, but no contact name to associate with it. What I'd like to be able to do is e-mail (or mail merge) from the company list/detail screens without having to create a seperate contact page for this company?
I noticed that the field specfication for the company e-mail field is not allowed to be set to e-mail.
Can someone think of a way to fix this? Thanks!

As you have worked out, you are expected to create a contact record first. However, this does mean that you would finish up with a load of contact records with no contact name which is not a good thing to do.
Two possible work-arounds I can think of.
If you have ACT! 2009 (V11), one option is to create a Note in the Company View and type the email address there. You can then click on that email address either in the note or the preview window to send your email.
Option two is to create a new URL field in Company View and when you type in the email address put mailto:// (without the quotes) in front of the address, e.g.. mailto://firstname.lastname@example.org (apologies to John Smith if you exist!)
Both options have limitations. Firstly, the email created this way doesn't get automatically recorded in Company History as would happen with a Contact record. Secondly, with the "notes" option, if you have a large number of Company notes you might have difficulty finding the one with the email address.

Why on earth would you not allow a field with the property "email" as you do in the contact fields? I want to link a company email field to a contact's company email field, nut someone hasn't got their ACT! together to let us use an email field in Company... is there a fix for this?

This wouldn't be a fix... it would be a feature request. Sage often looks at these forums when they are considering what new features to add.
If you want the ability to email from companies, then you need to seek out the help of a custom development company to write you a custom application.

I just stuck in a character type field in both the contact and company views, and linked them, and called them "Company Email." For now, it gets me what I wanted.

Puhleese, provide an email field for Companies.
Note: Please let me know at least one day before h*ll freezes over, so I can set some time aside to change these fields to "email" types.
