Is it safe to Use a Drop Down for your Contact field? for a large custom database -ACT!2010 std

Is it safe to use a Drop Down for your "Contact"  field? for a large custom database -ACT!2010 std

Will this hammer my performance?

Average database would have 5,000 to 500,000 records..(more like 75,000 average # of contacts).

Thanks - FSB

The contact field is a special field consisting of the first, middle, last, prefix, suffix fields and populates the salutation field when completed.  Performance issues aside, I would not try and make this a drop down.

Although you can do it, I"m really curious as to why?  If contacts are proples names, how effecient would be a drop down of peoples names? scrolling through this would be difficult.

Considering this approach for my Recruiting Software add-on product. www.fillstaff.com

I could use this method in my (Opportunities)Job Order / Sendout tracking.

Selecting the contacts(job seekers) submitted to a specific opening from a drop down(with type ahead), would help insure that the submitted persons name gets entered correctly. There is at least one other option but I need good visuals on this issue.  Sounds like it may be too much of a performance issue? Thanks for the feedback. Cheers - FSB
