Installation Problem

I am trying to install ACT 2008 version 10.0 on my new computer and it is asking for an "sa password".

What is this and where do I find it?

Thanks,

Re: Installation Problem

Ok, Select the ACT7 instance under Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and allow it to remove this instance.  Once this is done, from this same menu, allow Windows to uninstall ACT!.

Once this is done, reboot the machine and reinstall ACT! using your media.  This should recreate the ACT7 instance and reinstall ACT!.

Please post your results.

thanks,

-Matt

Re: Installation Problem

I assume that the laptop is running Vista and you need to Run As Administrator or turn off the UAC to install the ACT! program.

Re: Installation Problem

I have Vista and have gotten this same thing and I have UAC off but I only got this message on a couple of the many, many times I have tried, unsuccessfully, to install it.

Re: Installation Problem

What other Microsoft applications are installed on this machine?

Open "Control Panel" and select "Programs and Features".  Look for a line item called "Microsoft SQL Server 2005".  If this is listed, select it and choose "Change".  Following this, please list the named instances displayed.  You can then choose "Cancel" which will not modify your installation.

This is important information.

thanks,

-Matt

Re: Installation Problem

When I located Microsoft SQL server under the control panel and clicked on change, this is what was shown:

SQL Server 2005 instances

     ACT7: Database Engine

SQL Server 2005 common components

    no common components installed

Re: Installation Problem

Matt:

I am unclear on how to remove just the ACT7 instance. Are you talking about the MS SQL Server 2005?

Thanks,

Sean

Re: Installation Problem

Yes.  Click the ACT7 database engine line item under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 line item and allow it to remove this instance.

Re: Installation Problem

Matt:

When I click on the ACT7 it takes me to MS SQL Server Installaion Wizard.

Should I be clicking on Remove SQL Server 2005?
