I am installing Act 2006 on a new Dell XPS 7100
Everytime I try it gails at installing service
I have tried it in Windows 7 64 Bit 32 bit and now xp 32 bit and it is the same error every time.
The hardware is a Phenom X6 but al drivers are installed and the PC works with no issues except for ACT.
I do not have antivirus or firewalls running at this time.
The exact errors are as follows:
Act! Error - Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs for more information
It rolls back actions and then
Error: -1603 Fatal Error during installation
Consult indows Installer help MSI.chm or MSDN for more information.

You might try this ACT! Knowledge Base article -
But be aware that ACT! 2006 was never designed to work on Windows 7 and is more than likely to cause problems.

So I now have found the real problem. msde does not like cores that are not in the power of 2.
This is a documented issue in sql express 2--5 and affects msde as well. The problem I am having now is I cant get an of the workarounds to work
the k-dbg doesnt do anything on the xp install.

This is for SQL 2005, but might be worth trying:
