Install issues with ACT! 2010 ??

Hi All -

I have some issues with my PC, so I nuked it and started over.  Have everything installed except ACT!  I have MS SQL 2005 SP3 installed (directly from MS) along with NET Framework 4.51.  Running Win 7 Pro (64 bit).

Receiving the following errors:

"ACT! has encountered an error and needs to close"

"SQL did not install successfully.  Please review installation guide (and some other things).

I've removed SQL from SP4 and re-ins to SP3 -- neither work.  Have two other systems and I just can't determine the difference.  I just can't complete the install let alone any updates.  Prev had SQL 2012 (then I realized it was not compatable) and uninstalled via Ctl panel.

Any & all help is appreciated.

Tx-

Re: Install issues with ACT! 2010 ??

The Act! installer comes with a script to install SQL.  Try removing all SQL related items via Control Panel, reboot, then let the Act! installer do its magic!

Re: Install issues with ACT! 2010 ??

Hi Mark -

Thanks for the advice.  I've done that for 2005 Express & 2008 Express.  Are their any apps that are part of SQL that don't have SQL in their name?  Cold reboot as well.  Reg scan / clean .  I'm really stumped.

are you receivin and error during the install of ACT!?  Or does it appear that SQL installs successfully?

Re: Install issues with ACT! 2010 ??

Hi Mark -

Yes.  ACT! install always crashes.  I receive the following:

"ACT! has encountered an error and needs to close"

"SQL did not install successfully.  Please review installation guide (and some other things).

then it closes w/o completing the installation.

I've removed anything with the name "SQL" from programs (within ctl panel) and MS Offce XP.  Have 2 other systems running same

s/w (different h/w configs).  SQL seems to be the issue; wheter off of the ACT! cd or from MS Update (installs w/o crashing, but then says I need to remove it and let ACT load SQL or something of the sorts).

Thanks -

http://kb.swiftpage.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27742

That article has lots of options to look through, but most of them are on sql 2008.

For sql 2005: http://kb.swiftpage.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19409

I would suggest trying to manually install your sql instance and see if you can get a better error.  That kb is: http://kb.swiftpage.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19386

good luck!

Re: Install issues with ACT! 2010 ??

I tried to manually install SQL server 2005 from the CD via:

http://kb.swiftpage.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19386

I only am able to install 12 of 13 processes.  The "warning" is:

- ASP.Net Version Registration Requirement (Warning)
Messages
ASP.Net Version Registration Requirement

Failed to find the ASP.Net Version Registration with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).

I can install but it still is crashing during the subsequent ACT! install.  Thinking of re-nuking the machine and installing ACT! first so no other apps are on except Windows & Norton A/V  (all updated before ACT!).

Any thoughts?

if you do nuke and pave, install office before you install Act!
