a new phone system has resulted in multiple contacts within the same company
being assigned a direct telephone number as well as a new extension.
I have the Contact names, extensions, and new phone number in a CVS file format.
Once a Lookup has been created for the contacts affected, how can I map and merge
the specific direct phone number and the extension to the specific contact.
Thanks for helping with this work around

you can use "filter"

would you specify the steps.
I have 50 contacts in a csv file with only the contact name, phone number, extension.
If I do a lookup in ACT of the 50 contacts, I'm uncertain how to get the specific contact
name to import the correct new phone number and extension for that contact
Thanks

Need Clarification on importing csv cell data to ACT v18 contact record.
These are the steps taken but the data does not populate into ACT:
Opened ACT v18 and did an import of the CSV file
Did not add the data to the newly created fields in the layout.
If I didn't select check for duplication it added a new record with only Contact name, new phone, new ext.
What am I doing incorrectly?
Thanks for clarifying

When importing, select Custom on the wizard step
I never suggest using typical.
In this step it has the csv field on the left. In the right column select the act field.

I just did that without selecting any check for duplicating contacts and it still did not import data to the
new fields created and added to the edited layout designer.
Can't figure out what's happening. The names in the CSV file are the same names in the ACT database.

As a test.
Create a new db.
Import the csv contacts into the db. Map them to existing fields.
See what happens? Save the CSV as an excel and try?

I created a new database and successfully imported the contact names, phone numbers and the new extensions into the newly created fields for new phone #, new ext, First name, and last name; Imported successfully from both a Excel and a CSV file.
Did not select check for duplicating.
The issue is I have lots of data in existing contacts with notes, activities, etc and want to import the new phone and est number into the existing contact data.
Don't understand why it is not importing CSV or Excel file data into existing contacts.

In the import wizard you need to select Replace with Source Contact (Wizard 8 0f 10)
