Importing CSV records in ACT - want them to come into a defined group

Using ACT 2009 (Version 11) with Windows XP Pro SP3. I have a custom map to bring records from a CSV file into an Act database that works fine. I want to bring subsequent records into the database but need to group them into separate group. Is this done by selecting group versus contacts when importing? If yes, why can't I use the same map? When I tried to use my maps for contacts, I'm told it is for contacts and won't let me load it. Bruce

Hello Realestateguy,

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Online Community!

Maps are specific to the type of records you are attempting to import.  If you import a list of names in as 'Groups' or 'Companies', it will create Groups/Companies with those names.  It won't create a contact and link it to a Group or Company.

One option to import and have the contacts linked to a group, is to create a Group and use dynamic criteria.  You can define the criteria to be 'import date = xx/xx/xxxx' (date imported).  You can create the Group before or after the import.
