I was using ACT 2008 on an XP machine. Got a new Windows 7 machine, loaded ACT 2010 and successfully converted a copy of my database. Everything looks and works fine. However, today I imported a csv file with 500 contact records, all the fields were mapped correctly but when I finished the import most of the data in the imported file was in the wrong fields. For example:
City from my file went to Fax Phone field on ACT
Phone # from my file went to Prefix field on ACT
I deleted them and ran the database check and repair and then tried to import again but got the same results.

The first thing that jumps out to me is that You are using ACT 2008 on an unsupported system. (Win7) Other than being suprised that it worked at all, I don't know if that is your problem. However, the results you are receiving is not typical of the import performance of ACT, so I would also wonder if everything is set up properly on your end. There is a lot you can do to prepart the data.
My best guess is that there are commas in other places in your .csv file. Try this along with the following KB articles. Open your file in Excel, and make sure all the collumns line up with data in the correct places. Then save as a tab delimited text file from Excel, Then try importing the .tab delimited file into ACT. if all of this fails, you would need to consider upgrading.

I removed all commas from my Excel spreadsheet and saved it as a tab delimited .txt file and imported it to ACT and got the same field mismatches:
State has blank
Last Name has State
Mobile Phone has a date
Zip Code has Suffix
and so on
I'm running ACT! by Sage 2010 Version 126.96.36.199, Hot Fix 1 on Windows 7.

I didn't see anything that popped out at me as being wrong. Sometimes when an import give us difficulties, we will import into text fields (like user1, user2, etc) and then use edit replace or edit copy to move the data around within the database.

As a rule, I always try to get my text file into Tab delimited, rather than comma delimited, format. Commas really can screw up an import because they can be both the delimiter and occur naturally within fields, like the Company name (think "Dewey, Cheatham and Howe"). If you load your comma delimited file into Excel, you can then save it as a Tab-delimited file, then try importing it into ACT!

Tab delimited did not work either.
Same results when importing to Demo database.
I removed all commas from file - same results.
I copied the spreadsheet and pasted as unformatted text into a new spreadsheet - same results.
What the heck?!?! I've got 500+ records and I don't want to key them manually! Any other suggestions?
