Import new field definitions

I created a copy of my ACT 2009 database so that I could make changes, test them out and review them with my superiors.  The changes involved creating about 50  new fields.  Everything is great and now I need to copy these new field definitions and the new templates and reports to the live database.  I don't see a way to export/import the definitions.  I could copy the templates and reports, but how do I get the 50 new fields into the live database?

Re: Import new field definitions

I'm afraid it isnt as simple as that. You cannot simply import new field definitions into an existing ACT! database. Within the core product, it would be necessary for you to manually rebuild those field definitions in the same way that you did in the test database.

If this sounds too painful, you may like to take a look at some of the addons that allow you to define fields in an Excel spreadsheet and use this to generate new fields within the database. Take a look at Batch Field Creator

With a total of 50 new fields, the likelihood of going to a spillover table is very high. In that case, the layout and template he created would not work and would need to be redone or updated. The better choice would be to create an empty copy of the database and populate it with the user accounts from the old database and then use and import tool like OakMerge to move the data from the old to the new database.
