I am trying to import a set of records only 3 fields populated - email / Market Sector and Referred by but it says a success but no records appear

You may need to check your Duplicate Checking options under Tools > Preferences > Admin tab > Duplicate Checking.
Try disabling it if you are trying to create new records with the import (opposed to updating existing).
