I have various activities being updated in act as History entries.
I want to search of specific keywords.
But these keywords may occur across multiple history entries
For a given contact: say John Smith, the history might be
Date Regarding and Details
01/01/10 Truck arrived
15/02/10 Truck left
18/2/10 Truck left
21/05/10 Truck arrived
The problem is: If I search for the event "Truck arrived", I'm going to get a 'hit' based on the entry for the 01/01/10 AND 21/05/10
What I really need is something where I can specific 'free form' keyword search, but have it only search the specific History for a date range
I am aware of 1 or 2 ADDONs that can do this, but they are far outside my meager budget.
Potentially some 'export to excel' or MS Access or a 'simple' add-on would be most welcome.

There isn't a built-in function for doing a search within a date range/data range and I may be missing the ultimate goal of your question... but as an alternative, you may want to create custom Activity Types and then use the Activity Report where you can specify which activity types to display and give it a date range.
- To create activity types: go to Schedule > Manage > Activity Types
- Activity report: Reports > Activities > Activities tab > de-select Calls/Meetings/To-Dos > select appropriate 'Custom' values > set Date Range.
