Having problems backing up

Hello all:

I have a WIndows-based program that copies specified files to an archive server.  I found that the critical files for ACT! 2009 live in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\ACT\ACT for Windows 11\Databases

I try to copy that directory (and all files and subdirectories), but get the following message, EVEN when ACT! is not running:

Sharing violation

I actually get this message twice, and I certainly noticed that my .ADF and .ALF files are missing, which are probably the two critical files.

1. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem

2. Any other suggestions on how to back up to a different server?

Thank you.

Re: Having problems backing up

The ACT! database ADF and ALF files are conected to the MSSQL server and the MSSQL server will be running any time the computer is booted up unless you specifically stop the server. Your best options are to use the backup within the ACT! program (File | Backup | Database) or get a backup program that is capable of backing up open files. The one I use is from Genie-Soft and is called Genie Backup Manager Pro.
