HELP! Why does ACT always prompt me to "get started" when I have already done so?

Does anyone know why every few times when I open ACT, it tries to take me through the getting started process?  I did this when I first installed ACT, and am not sure why I am asked to do this (not every time, but every 3 times or so).  Also, when it does this, and I then open the database from the FILE menu, I lose all my settings, like customized columns in the "opportunities" section.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!
