I recently upgraded to ACT 2011 and I can no longer create a lookup simply by selecting a group. On my previous version from the contact screen I could selet a group and instantly I had a lookup of that group. Now I have to lookup a group, select all members and say to create a lookup. Can anyone point me in he right direction.

I think you have it pretty much right. You can skip a step by right clicking on the group name and selecting create lookup.

Its very simple - just highlight the Group and click on the 'View Contacts Within Group' in the list of the Related Tasks on the left.
