The Edit-Replace feature "normally" displays the fields listed in the Contacts table. If you created the database from File New, then it creates a standard database with all the default fields. ID/Status is one of them. It should be visible in the field list when you select Edit-Replace Field.
From the information you provide, I suspect you are selecting the Edit-Replace feature when in the GROUP window, rather than from the Contacts window.
Change to the Contact screen and try again.

Thank you for sticking with me here. I'm unable to test your recommendations right now, since I've just returned my computer to Toshiba. I'll be setting ACT up again on the weekend on a new computer and look forward to trying your suggestions then.

This is EXCELLENT!
I was scratching my head about editing the ID/Status field for multiple records and came across this thread. It worked like a charm.
I'm just now realizing that I need to do this for 1,600 records so I can organize mailings, so this give me a great head start on a big task as I try to get this done.
