Format a social security or tax id field

How can I format a tax id field to display 00-0000000? Or a social security field to display 000-00-0000? I tried setting the field type to "phone" and then changing the default format, but it seems to change the default format for ALL phone fields in the database rather than the specific field. Any ideas?

Re: Format a social security or tax id field

You would not use a phone field, since those use a special set of formatting rules. Use a Character or Number field. Then in the Define Fields dialog box, in the screen for "Customze field behavior", you can define the format in the "Field format" box.
