Facebook

I have Act 2010 - the latest version.  In the webinfo section using Facebook - when I find the right contact, how do I lock it so that the right facebook person comes up with the contact?  I would like to go to the contact - hit web info - hit facebook and always have the right contact appear, not all the others.

Re: Facebook

Unfortunately it doesn't do this at this time.

You might post a request for this feature to be considered for a future version here -

Input from this web page goes directly into a database that management has direct access to read, and which they also track and gather statistics on. It also allows other users to vote on these so Sage can get an idea of the demand

Re: Facebook

Too bad ... this would be valuable rather than having to sort through each time.  I expected it as obvious and thought I was doing something wrong.

Re: Facebook

The default Facebook link is for searching the contact's name.  It will not provide you a direct link to the contact's profile.

http://www.facebook.com/srch.php?nm={Contact.Contact}

If you want a direct link to their profile, you'll have to create a new link or modify the existing Facebook URL.  There are a couple ways to do this.

Option One:

Create a new website field in ACT! and copy a direct link to their profile

Ex: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/barackobama

Now create a new link in the Web Info tab to pull the URL from that new field.

Option Two:

This option can be a little tricky because the URL is different depending on if the person has created a Facebook username or not.  There may be a single URL to pull the profile that I'm unaware of.

Create a new field in ACT! and copy their ID or alias.

Now create a two new links in the Web Info tab and link it to the new field.

No Username:

http://www.facebook.com/#/profile.php?id=

Username:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/

Re: Facebook

Thank you ... I see how that all works.  Can you do the same with Linked, Plaxo, etc.?

Re: Facebook

BTW: I've found this target URL works better for LinkedIn
http://www.linkedin.com/search?search=&company={Contact.Company}&currentCompany=currentCompany&kwnam...
Although I haven't actually tested it since LI changed their search functions... but it might give you some ideas (like using currentCompany and setting sort)

But the ability to remember the record and go to it once it's found (like Xobni for Outlook) would be the first step to really make this much more useful

I posted some of the things I'd like back last March:

Re: Facebook

I have recently purchased v2010 and I've found that the result that ACT gives for # is %2523 and this causes the link not to work.
