Sage ACT! Pro 2012 Version 220.127.116.11, Hot Fix 5
Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac 1GB CPU memory allocated to VM
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit
With Act! open and running Windows 7 runs extremely slowly. The system pauses and hangs for a second or several while it waits for CPU. Task Manager shows heavy CPU use by SqlServr.
I have tryied setting SQLServr to low priority in Task MAnager but that doe snot help.
Is there a way to make Act! less of a CPU hog in this configuration?
Since this would imply I think heavy disk useage I wonder if that means Act! may seriously shorten the life of the disk?
Closing Act! restores normal speed to the system.

Because the SQL Server controls the database I wouldn't set it to a low priority. The problem your having sounds like you have the memory available to the virtual machine set to low and it's being forced to do a lot of memory swapping between the actual memory and the virtual memory on the hard drive. The RAM setting you're using is the minimum for the ACT! program.
