Event Log shows issues with ACT and causes computer to restart

I've been having this issue for quite some time, and just discovered in the event log that it looks like ACT and SQLSVR might be the culprit in my computer restarting several times a day. Here's some of the event log entries - sorry they are in no particular order. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Event Log shows issues with ACT and causes computer to restart

Hello Rick,

I don't see how these errors would cause your computer to reboot. It may be that whatever is causing your system to reboot is causing problems with ACT! and SQL, and possibly other applications. In the Event Log, look at the times the errors occurred...do they coincide with your computer restarting? Are there errors for other applications besides ACT!?

One of the errors specifically mentions the .ALF file for the database "RicksContacts2008". The .ALF is the SQL log file for the specific database. Is this your current database? Does this happen if you were to use another database, such as the demo database, which is "ACT(version#)Demo"? This might also be caused by an anti-virus software interfering with ACT! and/or SQL. Try disabling your antivirus and see what happens.

Also, what version of ACT! are you using (from Help/About ACT!)?

And what operating system are you using?

Re: Event Log shows issues with ACT and causes computer to restart

Hi Greig,

RicksContacts2008 IS NOT my current database, so I'm not sure what's up with that. These times seem to coincide with the computer restarting. I'm running ACT! by Sage 2010 Version 12.0.409.0, Hotfix 3 on XP.

This seems to come and go. I'll be plagued with several restarts a day for a while, then it doesn't happen for a few days. Since posting, I have not had the issue.

Thanks!

Rick,

If the database "RicksContacts2008" is not a database you need, I would suggest removing it from your system. First check the ACT! Scheduler under the Tools menu, and if there are any scheduled tasks for this database, then delete them. Then remove the database from your system.

Re: Event Log shows issues with ACT and causes computer to restart

HI Greg,

I'm still having this issue. It was quiet for a while, only restarting my computer a few times each week. This week, it's been every hour! The first error in the application log is ACTScheduler. It says it's equal or less than zero. The problem is I don't have anything in ACTScheduler when I open it. Can you send me instructions how to uninstall ACT, SQL, etc...? ANYTHING that's related to ACT? I also have several folders of previous ACT versions I need to dump.

I've been using ACT for well over 10 years, and these last two versions or so have really been a major pain to me. At this point, I'm so frustrated, I don't know if I'll reinstall. Maybe it's time to go to the cloud?
