We have been using our ACT database for several months now. When trying to open this morning, we received the following error message:
"The database could not be accessed. In order to access this database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available."
Our database is not located on our server, it is on our hard drive. Why would we be getting this message out of the blue?

Welcome to the ACT! Online Community. If you are getting this error with a local database, then the likely cause is the SQL Server not running. Try these steps:
- From your Windows Start Menu, choose Run and type in services.msc If you are using Vista or Windows 7, type this command in the Search field at the bottom of the Start menu.
-When the list of local services comes up, look for SQL Server (ACT7). If the status of the service is not "Started", then right-click on the service and select "Start". If it is started, then right-click and select "Restart".
