Error assocating files

I have just reinstalled Windows on a clients' laptop for him, as the disk was faulty.  I copied everything from the old disk on to the new computer, bearing in mind he uses ACT!  However, whenever he selects the .pad file he wants, it says it can't associate the file with anything (does this have anything to do with synchronization?)  What can I do in this situation?

Re: Error assocating files

I did find this just now:

but as the old disk is no longer in the system (SMART errors but you can still read the data) would the procedure in the above link still be possible?

Re: Error assocating files

Having just reinstalled Windows and copying the old disk, it may be that some of the installed items (ex: registry keys) have been removed.  If you haven't already, I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the ACT! program to ensure all of it's pieces are in place.
