Error Loading Layouts

My OS recently crashed (Vista).   Best Buy recovered my files and I reinstalled Act!.  All of the information is there but when I open one of my databases (the important one of course) I get an error message indicating that there are no layouts available in the layouts folder (following the path where the data base is).  There are, in fact, 6 layouts in that folder.  Any ideas?

Try unsharing your database (Tools -> Database Maintenance -> Uncheck Share Database), close ACT! and reopen.

If that doesn't work, try these steps:

  1. Close ACT!
  2. Detach the database from actdiag - steps in this KB article under The .PAD file is damaged section
  3. Then go to the location of the database and delete the PAD file and rename your database (ADF, ALF, and Database Files folder).
  4. Open ACT! and go to File -> Open Database.  Browse to the location of the database and change the file type to ADF.  Open your database's ADF file and follow the prompts that come up.
