Edit / Copy function to capture contact fields

While in a Contact's record you can go to the Edit menu and select Copy. This will copy the following fields to your computer's Clipboard.

Barry Goughnour
President
GA Sales Associates
(410) 549-1234
(410)549-3856
1020 Hoods Mill Road
Woodbine, MD 21797-9104
barry@gasales.com

This is a feature I use often to cut and paste contact information into letters and emails.

Does anyone know a way to modify the data that is captured?

I would like to add the Web Site and Mobile phone fields. And also add the words "Phone", "Fax" and "Mobile" as a prefix so the receiptent knows which phone number to dial or fax.

Unfortunately this is preset and cannot be changed.  This will actually be a good feature request.

Please submit a feature request to be considered in a future version - http://www.act.com/community/feature/

There is a 3rd party app that does this. It's called Clippie by www.crm-service.com

You have to write your own code (choice of fields) in their .ini file after you install the program but it does what I'm asking for.

What about using the ACT! Write from Template feature / Mail Merge to perform this task?

Re: Edit / Copy function to capture contact fields

I guess I could create a custom template and then run that to some output. Then copy it. Then paste it to the doc or email that I want it in. But the one click solution is more desiable.

Re: Edit / Copy function to capture contact fields

I, too, have always wanted to change the fields that are captured when using the handy Edit, Copy feature.  How do I request this feature?  The link above no longer works.  Please advise...

Submitting a feature request is done through the Share Your Ideas board.  Once submitted, other members can comment and vote (kudos) on the suggestion.

Re: Edit / Copy function to capture contact fields

In my post above re using of Write Templates is easy to set up for your custom needs, then add the template to your Custom Commands Toolbar and you will have a One Click Button to get desired results.-  You can take it a little further and create a Custom Tab on your layout if needed-

Or maybe use the File / Export option?  Cheers - FSB

Re: Edit / Copy function to capture contact fields

I understand your suggestion but you'd still have to run the report, have the report open in Word, and then copy the contents. Edit, Copy is faster. I think ACT! should fix this.

Re: Edit / Copy function to capture contact fields

This should end this thread. (At least for me.) Go to the ACT Add-on Store. Under Utililties there is a cool little add-on called Contact Clipboard. (It should be called "Conact Info to the Clipboard".) It's well worth the $27 and does exactly what I needed.

It copies fields of the Contact detail view to your computer's clipboard for pasting into anything.

And it is very easy to modify the fields that it copies.
