ERROR Message! I'm no whiz kid and need help installing ACT! 10 on Windows 7. SQL Server 2005 COMPACT seems to be the problem.....

I'm getting this error when attempting to install ACT! 10 on Windows 7:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

------------------------------

SQL Server Setup could not validate the service accounts. Either the service accounts have not been provided for all of the services being installed, or the specified username or password is incorrect. For each service, specify a valid username, password, and domain, or specify a built-in system account.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.4035.00&Evtsr...

I seem to have the COMPACT edition installed and see no references to this issue.  It's in the forum I'd guess but can't seem to find it.  I'm going nuts!  Help?

Thanks in advance!

Re: ERROR Message! I'm no whiz kid and need help installing ACT! 10 on Windows 7. SQL Server 2005 COMPACT seems to be the problem.....

http://www.act.com/support/getstarted  is where I found free tech support by phone. It's a M-F service and I stuggled with the problem all weekend then called on Mon. morning. It's for install issues.  The tech remote controlled my computer for a bit and solved the problem but I can't tell you what it was they did.  It was making an association for ACT! in the SQL Server or something very similar to that. I did have a problem with being able to perform a Windows Update afterwards but then the below inf. was provided by Microsoft and everything seems to be working fine now:

From the case log, I understand that Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297) can not be installed due to error "WindowsUpdate_00000002" "WindowsUpdate_dt000". If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.
I fully understand the inconvenience you have experienced. We will work together to resolve this issue through the course of the case.

The issue can be caused by corrupt .NET Framework components, please try following steps to solve the issue:
Step 1: Remove the corrupt .NET Framework components
===============================
1. Please download the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip from the following link:

Please Note: Microsoft provides third-party websites to help you locate certain files or services more conveniently. The URLs may change without notice, as they are managed by a third party. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information.
2. Unzip the zipped file, and you will get the tool "cleanup_tool.exe".
3. Please double click on it.
4. At "Product to cleanup", Choose .NET Framework - All Versions
5. Then Click Cleanup Now
After performing these steps, please move on to the following suggestions to reinstall .NET Framework 1.1 and its updates.

Step 2: Install .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package and its updates
==============================================
Please download and install the following updates in order.

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package
http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/a/c/aac39226-8825-44ce-90e3-bf8203e74006/dotnetfx.exe

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)
Note: When the "File Download" window appears, please click "Save", and follow the directions to save the file on the Desktop. After downloading all the setup files, please double-click on each one to install them.

If any error is encountered when installing .NET Framework 1.1, please capture a screenshot and send it to me. For your convenience, here are the steps.

How to capture a Screenshot:
=======================
1. When the error appears, please press the "Print Screen" key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
2. Click "Start", click "Run", type MSPAINT, and click "OK".
3. In Paint, click "Paste" under the "Edit" Menu, click "Save" under the "File" menu, type a file name for the screenshot, choose JPEG as "Save as type", click "Desktop" on the left pane, and click "Save".
4. Please find the screenshot on the Desktop and send it as an attachment to: v-30juwu@mssupport.microsoft.com.
Note: When attaching files to emails, the process will vary depending on the email application being used. While you are composing the email, most applications will provide you with either an "Attach" button or Paper Clip Icon to click in order to attach a file. After clicking this button/icon you must browse to the file you wish to attach and select it by either double clicking it or clicking it once and then clicking on the "Attach" button.

Windows 7 and act 2008 is not compatible. But the error is SQL server install configuration related. Even if you manage to get it installed , the program installation / registration would still have problems. Unlike act 2009 the 2008 is not specifically developed for Windows Vista /7 architecture.

Thanks for that inf. Hillrider but I was asking about ACT!10.  It turns out the support staff at Sage was great.  The tech advise if free for 30 days from activation I think and he took remote control and fixed it.  It is a problem with the SQL Server 2005 program but he made a new association and now it work fine.
